The post Bitcoin vs Gold: What Is the Best Investment in 2025? appeared first on Coinpedia Fintech News
Bitcoin has been one of the biggest winners of the changing political attitude toward cryptocurrency. Just weeks after Donald Trump defeated Kamala Harris in the U.S. presidential election, Bitcoin surged past the historic $100,000 mark. However, like most top cryptocurrencies, its upward momentum has slowed since the beginning of 2025.
Despite its previous gains, Bitcoin has struggled in the first quarter of 2025. Its year-to-date (YTD) performance is down 10.2%, with a 2.71% decline in the last week alone.
Not everyone sees this as a bad sign. Tom Lee, co-founder of Fundstrat, remains optimistic. He believes Bitcoin will be the best-performing asset this year, even surpassing gold. A bold prediction, but does it hold up?
Bitcoin vs. Gold: Who’s Winning?
Gold had a strong 2024, rising by 27.44%. But Bitcoin performed even better, soaring 121.1% over the same period.
This year, the situation has reversed. Gold’s YTD growth is nearly 13.7%, while Bitcoin has fallen by 10.2%.
Bitcoin’s slow start has raised doubts about its ability to challenge gold as the most trusted store of value. Even so, Lee is confident that Bitcoin will overtake gold’s performance before the year ends.
A Month of Sharp Swings
Bitcoin started 2025 at $93,536.41. In January, it grew by 9.54%, but in February, it dropped by 17.55%.
March has been equally unpredictable. At the start of the month, Bitcoin was trading at $84,381.04. Within the first two days, it jumped 11.68%, reaching $95,048.73 on March 2.
Since then, two major corrections have pulled prices down:
- March 3 saw an 8.5% drop
- Between March 6 and 10, Bitcoin lost another 13.25%
The market has not fully recovered from these setbacks. Currently, Bitcoin is priced at $83,873, which is 13.32% below this month’s peak.
Can Bitcoin Hit $150K This Year?
Tom Lee predicts that Bitcoin could reach $150,000 by the end of 2025. But should investors trust his forecast?
His track record with Bitcoin predictions has been mixed, with both successes and misses. However, as co-founder of Fundstrat, one of the most respected financial research firms, his views carry significant weight.
Whether Bitcoin rebounds and outperforms gold remains to be seen. One thing is certain: 2025 is shaping up to be an exciting year for crypto investors.
As the battle between Bitcoin and gold unfolds, only time will tell which asset truly holds the crown.
